I Planted Way Too Many Lettuce Seeds. Here's What Happened šŸ˜…

I may have gone a little overboard with the seeding…

Day 1: Soaked seeds for 6 hours, then sprinkled them on soil and covered lightly. By ā€œsprinkledā€ I mean dumped hundreds into one tiny pot. Future me would regret this.

A few days later: At around 20°C, they sprouted fast. So many little green heads everywhere.

A couple weeks in: Everything kept growing — surprisingly healthy, just way too crowded. Started getting leggy. Had to dig up the ones growing together and replant with actual space between them. Any with only 2-3 leaves got pulled. Kept the 4-leaf ones.

Around week 4: Growth slowed way down. Thought they might not make it :grimacing: but they bounced back. Even snacked on some baby greens along the way — tasted pretty good actually!

Two months later: Finally forming heads. Not bad for a pot that started with way too many roommates.

Lesson learned: Next time? Maybe 20 seeds max. :joy: Anyone else guilty of overplanting? Tell me I’m not alone :see_no_evil_monkey:

Oh I feel this on a spiritual level :joy: The ā€œdumped hundreds into one tiny potā€ part — been there. It’s like the seeds look so tiny and harmless in the packet and then BAM you’re suddenly running a lettuce orphanage.

The fact that you still got heads after all that chaos is honestly impressive though. Those baby greens snacks along the way? That’s just bonus harvesting :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

My record was with basil. Let’s just say I now understand the concept of ā€œthinningā€ much better than I used to. :see_no_evil_monkey:

I feel this :joy: The ā€œdumped hundreds into one tiny potā€ is such a classic move. We’ve all been there.

Pretty impressive they made it to harvest though. And getting to snack on the extras along the way? That’s just smart gardening :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

This whole post is a rollercoaster and I’m here for it :joy: From ā€œdumped hundredsā€ to ā€œsnacked on baby greensā€ to actual heads — that’s a journey. Honestly impressed it worked out. No shame in the overplanting game, we’ve all been there
