My little Houston spring garden — bugs, fertilizer burns, and happy survivors!

Last spring here in Houston, I planted a bunch of veggies and watched them fight through bugs and fertilizer burn. It was tough, but seeing them bounce back and grow stronger every day made it so worth it!

My little crew included cucumber babies, sweet horned melons, tomatoes, and even baby pumpkins.
The best part? Racing the birds to get the peaches… and yes, I lost every time :joy:

Anyone else in Zone 9a dealing with spring bugs and hungry birds?

Haha, the race against the birds is too real! I’m also in 9a, and the spring bugs are no joke. For the squash family (like your cucumbers), I found that going out in the early morning to hand-pick the caterpillars off the undersides of leaves made a huge difference. It’s a little meditative, if you can believe it! What are you finding works best against your bug crew?
