Choosing the correct Soil Type

What Soil Type should I choose in the app for the two soils described below:

  1. Organic Potting Soil (peat moss, compost, worm castings, perlite, and processed bark)
  2. Heavy native (Virginia, USA) red clay soil amended with compost in the planting hole (about 50/50 mix in the planting hole). The soil surrounding the planting hole is clay.

P1 through P6 represent different soil types:
P1: Default (Mixed soil); P2: Peat soil; P3: Black soil;
P4: Sandy loam; P5: Red soil; P6: Other
Please refer to the “FAQ & Feedback” section for more information on soil types.

Regarding the two soil types you mentioned, here are our recommendations:

  1. Organic Potting Mix (peat moss, compost, perlite, bark, etc.): Choose P2 (Peat Soil). This type of potting mix is ​​typically peat-based and retains moisture similarly to peat soil.

  2. Heavy native clay soil (Virginia red clay) amended with compost (~50/50 mix): Choose P6 (Other). This is a blended soil with modified structure and water retention characteristics, so “Other” is the safest choice.

A few tips:
After selecting the soil type, please press and hold the button on the sensor to restart it and ensure the new settings take effect.
You can monitor the readings for a few days. If the readings do not match the actual soil conditions, please try switching to a different soil type and testing again.
