Minus 20 celcius here. Growing all my vegetables in my greenhouse which is at +21 celcius. A bit of summer in the cold winter. ![]()
So cool! There are such fresh fruits this winter! How did you manage to do that? Did you prepare nutrient solution and plant lights? Is the light always on or does it turn on and off intermittently?
Wow, your plants look absolutely fantastic!
That’s some seriously happy growth for the middle of winter. Whatever you’re doing in there is clearly working wonders. Would you be open to sharing your top greenhouse hack or secret? Always looking to learn from setups that work this well!
It’s an 8 X 12’ 4 seasons cedar greenhouse that I bought last summer (made in USA). I already had the tubes so I started growing my vegetables in October.
I’m growing mini plants like:
- Tomatoes
- Cucumbers
- Spinach
- Salads
- Celery
- Peppers
- Herbs
- Bok Choy
- Cabbage
- Carrots
- Strawberries
- Mushrooms
I have about 100 vegetables growing now. This is enough to feed our family and a few neighbours. This isn’t a survival project but rather a way to have fresh vegetables. I’m more then upset to buy vegetables at the store that won’t last more then a couple of days.
My greenhouse is fully automated. The wifi is connected to batteries charged by solar panels and 2 wind turbines providing 5kw of free electricity.
I’m using 2 water containers of about 25 gallons each filled at 2/3 (about 17 gallons). 1 for the nutriments and the second for fresh water. My system is using about 3 gallons/day. Nutriments, pH, minerals and salt are mesured with an aquarium wifi tester and are added to the nutriment container with a wifi doser.
Very cool setup!!
Love the tech integration here! Using an aquarium WiFi tester for nutrients/pH is so smart. Do you find the automated doser pretty accurate? And 5kW from solar + wind must keep everything running smoothly.
This is next-level winter gardening! A self-sufficient, automated greenhouse running on renewable energy? So cool. Enjoy those fresh greens while it’s snowy outside
