Soil Moisture Check… and a Cow Poop Surprise.💩

:poop: I tried a little experiment today and had to share it here.

Turns out cow poop is way wetter than I imagined!

Here’s what my sensor showed:

• Fresh cow manure: 99% moisture

• Old manure: 65% — pretty much perfect compost level

It’s wild how much you can learn when you actually check the numbers.

Anyone else ever test random things in their garden? What surprised you the most? :seedling:

This is actually super interesting  I always guessed fresh manure was wet, but 99% is wild.
Makes me think I should check my compost pile too!

Haha I did something similar with my mulch and was shocked how dry it really was :herb:
These sensors uncover all the little lies our garden tells us :joy:

Okay, this is officially the most unexpectedly fascinating post we’ve seen today! :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: Thank you for sharing your… ahem… in-depth field research.:droplet:

You’ve actually touched on a brilliant point that every gardener learns sooner or later: moisture content is everything—whether it’s in your soil, your compost, or, well… your amendments. That difference between 99% (fresh) and 65% (aged/ideal) is a perfect example of why composting is such a transformative process!

To the whole community: This is the kind of curious, hands-on spirit we love! :test_tube:

What’s the most surprising thing you’ve ever tested with your sensor? (We’ve heard everything from potting mix brands to the water retention of different mulches!)

Got a great composting tip to share with fellow gardeners?
